From January 3 to 7, 2023, Nagpur witnessed a remarkable scientific celebration as the 108th Indian Science Congress unfolded at Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU). The prestigious event was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and became a vibrant platform to explore themes of science, technology, sustainable development, and women empowerment.
The five-day congress was a platform to promote inclusive growth, recognize women’s contributions in science, and explore sustainable solutions for the future. From science scholars to young school students, the event catered to a wide spectrum of participants, sparking discussions that were both insightful and forward-looking.
Science with a Purpose
The congress focused on holistic development and addressed the challenges faced by women in science and technology. Multiple sessions emphasized the need to break barriers and provide equal opportunities for women in STEM fields. Discussions around sustainable development aligned with global goals, making the event relevant in the context of today’s environmental and social needs.

One of the most engaging segments of the event was the Children’s Science Congress. It provided a vibrant platform for young minds to present their scientific experiments, ideas, and innovations. Apart from the central events, the congress also included special segments like the Women’s Science Congress, Farmers’ Science Congress, Science Communicators’ Congress, and Science and Society sessions. These segments encouraged participation from diverse sections of society, ensuring that the spirit of science touched everyone.
Esteemed Presence
The inaugural session was attended by several dignitaries including Bhagat Singh Koshyari, Governor of Maharashtra, Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister and Chairman of the RTMNU Centenary Advisory Committee, Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, and Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra. Their presence added significance and stature to the proceedings.
